1 Samuel 15:3

Today’s crazy Bible verse comes from the book of 1 Samuel.

“Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.” – 1 Samuel 15:3

Samuel is speaking these words to Saul.  No one is to be spared.  All men, women, and children are to be killed.  What did the women and children do?  Even if one argues the women and children did do wrong, what about the babies?  The babies were wrong and had to be killed?  I doubt that very much.  No one is more innocent than a baby.

The apologist might argue that these are Samuel’s words and not God’s words.  However, take a look at 1 Samuel 15:10-11.

“Then the word of the Lord came to Samuel: ‘I regret that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions.’ Samuel was angry, and he cried out to the Lord all that night.” – 1 Samuel 15:10-11

Saul shows mercy and gets rewar—er, wait, punished by God!  Saul did not follow God’s instructions through Samuel to destroy all, even the innocent, and God is upset.  This is the loving God that Christians worship.  Saul did not kill enough women, children, and babies to please the all mighty Lord.
