Today I return to the New Testament for this week’s crazy Bible verse.
“Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” – Luke 16:18
This clearly states there is no good reason for a divorce. It doesn’t matter if you were forced into the marriage by society or if you don’t love each other anymore. Divorce is wrong! To marry someone else after getting divorced or to marry a divorced woman is to commit adultery and that is against one of the ten commandments.
I know many, many Christians who are divorced and re-married and personally, I think that’s perfectly fine! I have no problems with Christians re-marrying after a divorce. I want them to live a happy life and if re-marrying leads to happiness then so be it. What upsets me is when Christians use other parts of the Bible to condemn other acts they disagree with. Gay marriage is the perfect example. The Bible says gay marriage is wrong and committing homosexual acts is wrong. Therefore it’s breaking the fabric of society to let the gays marry. WTF?!?!?! Gay marriage is wrong, but you divorcing 4 times is okay? Not according to Luke 16:18.
This is exactly what Kim Davis in Kentucky is doing. Apparently her being on her 4th husband is okay in the eyes of God, but two gay men or gay women marrying is the equivalent of Satan taking over the world. Sigh.
Cherry picking at it’s finest.
