Numbers – Chapter 25: Moab Seduces Israel

God has recently spoken to Balaam to send a message to Balak (don’t ask why God doesn’t speak himself…you know…mysterious ways) and the message basically says that all must bow down to God or suffer.  Numbers 25 brings some good old seduction and a heaping pile of hate!

“While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women…” – Numbers 25:1

OMG!  People had sex!  Burn them!  Kill them!  Destroy them!  🙂

“So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the Lord’s anger burned against them.” – Numbers 25:3

God could clear everything up once and for all by simply showing Himself once.  Stop speaking through others.  Stop taking the image of a cloud or fire.  Appear and speak clearly.  That’s all it takes.

“The Lord said to Moses, ‘Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the Lord, so that the Lord’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.’” – Numbers 25:4

This is supposedly the all-mighty God and creator of all.  If anyone is to blame, it’s God Himself.  He created Baal.  He created the Israelites.  All He has to do is speak to the people, yet He remains quiet.  He chooses death to all as the answer.

“Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.  When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his hand and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them, right through the Israelite man and into the woman’s stomach. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped; but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.” – Numbers 25:6-9

God created this hate.  That’s what this is, pure and simple.  Hate.  And don’t think for one second that this doesn’t happen today.  People are killed due to their skin color and sexual/gender identity every day.  And why?  Hate.  Much of that hate stems directly from the Bible.  Homosexuality is condemned today in the name of God by a large number of people.  Things are improving, but nonetheless, there is much hate out there directed at the LGBT and all non-white communities.

“The Lord said to Moses, ‘Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites. Since he was as zealous for my honor among them as I am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal.’” – Numbers 25:10-11

And it only took the death of 24,000 Israelites to quench God’s thirst for hate.

“Therefore tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him.” – Numbers 25:12

Fuck you God.  No loving person wants your hate filled “peace”.

“The Lord said to Moses, ‘Treat the Midianites as enemies and kill them. They treated you as enemies when they deceived you in the Peor incident involving their sister Kozbi, the daughter of a Midianite leader, the woman who was killed when the plague came as a result of that incident.’” – Numbers 25:16-18

Apparently 24,000 deaths did not quench God’s thirst for hate.  He demands more.  He demands the Israelites to now kill the Midianites.  SMH.

That concludes Numbers 25.  One word describes this chapter.  Hate.  God demanded the Israelites hate those who are different.  Sleep with the wrong person and death to you.  Be of the wrong tribe and death to you.  Hate. Hate. Hate. Hate. Hate.
