In our last look in the Book of Numbers, God signaled the end of Moses, making it clear that Moses would not reach the promised land. Even Moses’ dedication and love for God is not good enough for God. Moses is still with us, but not for long. Numbers 28 brings us some information on daily offerings.
“The Lord said to Moses, ‘Give this command to the Israelites and say to them: ‘Make sure that you present to me at the appointed time my food offerings, as an aroma pleasing to me.’’” – Numbers 28:1-2
At a time when people are going hungry, God demands the people burn some food for Him so He can smell it. On top of this, the offering is to be made EVERY day!!!
“The accompanying drink offering is to be a quarter of a hin of fermented drink with each lamb. Pour out the drink offering to the Lord at the sanctuary.” – Numbers 28:7
So God demands the Israelites take a fermented drink and dump it on the ground. Seriously? On top of this, we learn over the next several verses that there are special Sabbath and monthly offerings in addition to the standard daily offerings!
Next comes several instructions on the Passover offerings and Festival of Weeks offerings.
What did we learn in this chapter? Nothing. Well, maybe not nothing. We learned that in order to obey God and avoid death, the Israelites must essentially throw away a large amount of edible food while at the same time starving. Love you too God.
