Deuteronomy – Chapter 7: Driving Out the Nations

In our last chapter, Deuteronomy 6, we learned that God rules with fear.  In this chapter we learn about how the Israelites are to drive out nations.  Sounds like a peaceful chapter, right?  🙂

“When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—and when the Lord your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy.” – Deuteronomy 7:1-2

Kill em!  Kill em all!!!

“Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, for they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.” – Deuteronomy 7:3-4

Uh…they’ve already been destroyed?  Why are laws needed against intermarriage if the previous law was to destroy them?

“The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” – Deuteronomy 7:7-8

God loves the Israelites by requiring them to fear him.  Oh, and for the thousandth time, God HARDENDED THE PHAROAH’S HEART!!!  God is not innocent.  God is the cause of the Israelites enslavement in Egypt.

“The Lord will keep you free from every disease.” – Deuteronomy 7:15

Bullshit.  This is proof God doesn’t exist because all peoples/nations suffer from some disease of some kind.  Oh yeah, I guess they “didn’t pray hard enough.”

“You must destroy all the peoples the Lord your God gives over to you.” – Deuteronomy 7:16

Kill em!  Kill em all!!!

“But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.” – Deuteronomy 7:18

Yes, I do remember.  God hardened the hearts of the Egyptians.

“You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the Lord your God brought you out.” – Deuteronomy 7:19

No you didn’t.  God hid behind the clouds and in a fire, never showing his face.  Or shall I say, Moses hid behind clouds and in a fire.

“Do not be terrified by them, for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.” – Deuteronomy 7:21

“He will give their kings into your hand, and you will wipe out their names from under heaven. No one will be able to stand up against you; you will destroy them.” – Deuteronomy 7:24

Kill em!  Kill em all!!!

How best to sum up Deuteronomy 7?  Easy, it can be done in five simple words:  Kill em!  Kill em all!!!  🙂
