Moses is toast and Joshua is the new leader of the Israelites. Will he bring peace to the people? Let’s find out!
“After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: ‘Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.’” – Joshua 1:1-3
The moment we’ve all been waiting for. THE PROMISED LAND!!! Unfortunately this land is already occupied and God is setting up the story for more slaughter of innocents.
“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Joshua 1:5
Sorry God, you refused to let Moses enter the promised land, so you did forsake him. You weren’t with Moses, unless your definition of with is against.
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:7
Yes, don’t disobey the silly little rules about breaking a heifer’s neck or the number of days a women remains unclean after her period.
“Then they answered Joshua, ‘Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses. Whoever rebels against your word and does not obey it, whatever you may command them, will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous!’” – Joshua 1:16-18
This is a bloodthirsty people supposedly led by a bloodthirsty god. This can’t end well.
That concludes the first chapter of Joshua. No murder and rape yet, but we know it’s coming as God has made it very clear that you must obey his every command. Death is coming. I hear the ominous music now!
