Introduction to 1 Samuel

The Bible contains two books of Samuel which follow the trend of Joshua, Judges, and Ruth in that they are stories of how the Israelites followed and should follow the laws of the god of the Bible.  Traditional authorship is given to Samuel, but there’s no evidence of that, so the author(s) could be any random person.  The two books of Samuel focus on the characters Samuel, Saul, and David.  This is the David of the David & Goliath story.

What can we expect?  Given it follows the same trend as Joshua, Judges, and Ruth, I anticipate a lot of needless death and raping of women and children.  But I will gladly eat grow if I am wrong.  Tune in next week for the first chapter of 1 Samuel.
