Psalms – Chapter 44: For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil.

Psalms.  I will be so happy when I’m finished reading through and writing about the book of Psalms.  Unfortunately, that is many chapters away so I’ll just have to suck it up and pull myself up by the bootstraps as conservative Christians so often say.

“We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago.” – Psalms 44:1

Your ancestors must have left out all the shitty stuff God has done, otherwise you wouldn’t continue following him!

“With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish.” – Psalms 44:2

Kill the natives!  Kill the natives!  God is worthy!  Kill the natives!

“In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.” – Psalms 44:8

I believe you will praise him forever.  Despite the raping of women and murdering of children you continue to praise him, so what could God possibly do in the future to make you stop?

“But now you have rejected and humbled us; you no longer go out with our armies.” – Psalms 44:9

Or, you know, there’s a perfectly logical explanation.  There is no god.

“All this came upon us, though we had not forgotten you; we had not been false to your covenant.” – Psalms 44:17

That should tell you something about this ‘god’.

“If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god, would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart?” – Psalms 44:20-21

Given that God didn’t know Abel was dead in Genesis 4 when there were only FOUR people on the planet (per the Bible), I doubt he knows much at all when there are millions on the planet.

“Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love.” – Psalms 44:26

Unfailing love?  ROFL!!!  To sum this chapter up, David continues to praise God despite the clear evil God has committed.  Then David can’t understand why God has ‘disappeared’.  I don’t know, maybe because God is an asshole!  The best answer, of course, is God doesn’t exist, but if you insist on believing in the God of the Bible, it is very clear this god is a giant asshole.

Coming Soon:  Psalms – Chapter 45:  For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. A wedding song.
