Did you enjoy Saturday’s April Fool’s Day post on this blog? I couldn’t resist. After that bit of fun, it’s time to move back into Psalms, with a close look at Psalms 49 today.
“My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the meditation of my heart will give you understanding.” – Psalms 49:3
Words of wisdom? ROFL! There are very few words of wisdom in the Bible. Unless raping women and murdering children is wisdom.
“People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like the beasts that perish.” – Psalms 49:12
I agree! Too bad more Christians don’t follow this!
“But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead; he will surely take me to himself.” – Psalms 49:15
No he won’t. You’re dead. That’s it. End of life.
“Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases; for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them.” – Psalms 49:16-17
Again, I agree. Again, too bad more Christians don’t follow this!
“People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish.” – Psalms 49:20
For the third time, I agree. For the third time, too bad more Christians don’t follow this!
There’s quite a bit I agree with in this chapter. I agree with David’s comments on the rich focusing too much on their wealth. This is true. Yet overwhelming Christians vote for politicians who push policy that cuts taxes on the rich and takes away services for the poor. In other words, Christians vote for policies that are inherently un-Christian.
