Will Psalm 36 be a fresh breath of reality? Doubtful so let’s not waste any more time reading it.
“I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.” – Psalm 36:1
Not fearing a make-believe god who rapes, murders, and punishes children for the deeds of the parents? Count me among the fearless!
“The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good.” – Psalm 36:3
Well, I don’t rape, murder, or punish children for their parents’ deeds, so I’d say I’m already a few steps above the biblical god on the morality scale.
“Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong.” – Psalm 36:4
The bedroom is where all the naughtiness takes place, so, hell yeah!
“You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.” – Psalm 36:6
Except, of course, for the ones this god kills.
“Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.” – Psalm 36:10
Based on previous chapters, those who ‘know’ God are those who fear God. The Bible has made it clear multiple times that God loves those who fear him. Personally, I don’t fear make-believe gods unworthy of one’s worship even if they were real.
That concludes Psalm 36, an interesting chapter that goes after those who don’t follow God or don’t believe in God. A few strong attacks, but these attacks lack one very key thing. Evidence!
