Proverbs – Chapter 8: Wisdom’s Call

According to the title of today’s chapter, wisdom comes calling.  Will we actually gain some wisdom today? Doubtful, but let’s read on.

“Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.” – Proverbs 8:6

But trustworthy to who’s standards?  God’s? The being who commands murder and rape?

“…for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.” – Proverbs 8:11

I agree that wisdom is more precious than materialistic items, but the Bible has yet to offer any real wisdom.  Thus far this chapter simply says to listen to my words for they are truthful. We have no evidence of the trust in these words.

“To fear the Lord is to hate evil…” – Proverbs 8:13

No…to fear the Lord is to accept the evil the Lord brought into the word and to listen to the Lord when he commands you to commit evil.

“The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works…” – Proverbs 8:22

That’s not saying much.  The Lord also brought evil into this world.

“Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.” – Proverbs 8:32

Blessed are those who murder and rape in the name of the Lord?  That’s not wisdom. That’s evil.

This chapter is basically worthless.  It offers no real wisdom. It simply states that God created wisdom in the beginning and we are to listen to God.  But in terms of actual wisdom? Nothing. In other words, basically the same as the rest of the chapters in the Bible.  Nothing to gain.
