Proverbs – Chapter 13: Untitled

Who’s ready for some biblical wisdom?  🙂

“A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes.” – Proverbs 13:1

The Bible describes God as the father and us as his children.  When he commands rape, slavery, and murder, are we wise to follow his instructions?  Fuck no!!!

“Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it, but whoever respects a command is rewarded.” – Proverbs 13:13

Again, it is far more wise to ignore instructions of rape, slavery, and murder than respect evil commands.  The wise person is one who does not follow this evil god of the Bible.

“Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.” – Proverbs 13:18

Poverty and shame come to those who don’t properly beat their children as the god of the Bible demands!!!

“Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.” – Proverbs 13:24

See what I mean?  If you don’t beat the fuck out of your kids when they are bad, God will beat the fuck out of you!

The moral of this chapter?  It is moral and wise to beat your children.  This is why you, the reader, are far more moral than God in the Bible.

Atheism Quotes – Robert G. Ingersoll

Today’s Atheism quote comes from Robert G. Ingersoll.

“If the people were a little more ignorant, astrology would flourish — if a little more enlightened, religion would perish.” – Robert G. Ingersoll

I love this quote!  With the rise of the internet and access to other Atheists and information on religion, religion is on a decline.  A slow decline, but it’s amazing what knowledge can do to one’s critical thinking!

Proverbs – Chapter 12: Untitled

Today we continue through the book of Proverbs and the mighty ‘wisdom’ it has in store for us.

“A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.” – Proverbs 12:4

And what makes a disgraceful wife?  One who is not a slave to her husband and thinks for herself?

“The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm.” – Proverbs 12:7

There are wicked people today.  And some who do quite well with their lives.  Besides, the Bible tells us God brought evil into this world.

Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant  than pretend to be somebody and have no food.” – Proverbs 12:9

It’s better to have a slave than to go hungry?  This is the wisdom the Bible shares with us?

“Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.” – Proverbs 12:11

So those who work the land have never suffered a drought?

“No harm overtakes the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble.” – Proverbs 12:21

I thought you were a good person, but then when you were diagnosed with cancer, I realized you weren’t a righteous person.  Only the righteous avoid cancer. Fuck you God.

“The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves, but a fool’s heart blurts out folly.” – Proverbs 12:23

The Bible shares with us the great wisdom of keeping knowledge to oneself.  Sigh.

“Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.” – Proverbs 12:24

Lazy people become slaves?  God brought evil into this world according to the Bible and and supported slavery.

What a worthless pile of bullshit!  Wisdom? Hardly! Every verse in this chapter can be basically boiled down to stating the good are good and the bad are bad.  With no evidence to back it up.

Proverbs – Chapter 11: Untitled

As bad as the Proverbs of Solomon were in the last chapter, they are even worse this chapter for the simple reason the continue!

“The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.” – Proverbs 11:1

God gets pissed when the scale is off, but on the topic of rape he doesn’t have much to say.

“The righteous person is rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.” – Proverbs 11:8

Wondering why you are never rescued from your troubles?  You just weren’t righteous enough.

“A kindhearted woman gains honor…” – Proverbs 11:16

A woman gaining honor in the Bible usually means she is married off by her father to a man who paid for her.  The woman has no choice in the matter.

“Truly the righteous attain life, but whoever pursues evil finds death.” – Proverbs 11:19

Everyone dies.  Does this verse tell us everyone is evil?

“Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout  is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.” – Proverbs 11:22

ROFL!  Leave it to the Bible to compare a woman to a gold ring in a pig’s snout.  LOL!

There are a few other proverbs in this chapter, but you get the point.  Most make no sense at all and most others are easily refuted by taking a few moments and looking around.  People suffering are not suffering because they are evil. They are suffering because bad things happen. Both good and bad things happen to both good and bad people.  It has nothing to do with evil and certainly nothing to do with the god of the Bible.

Isaiah 13:22

Today’s Crazy Bible Verse comes from the book of Isaiah.

“Hyenas will inhabit her strongholds, jackals her luxurious palaces.” – Isaiah 13:22

At first glance this may not seem so crazy.  What makes it crazy is the replacement of dragons in the King James Version of the Bible with hyenas and jackals in the NIV Bible.  The change from a dragon to a hyena is a big one! If the Bible is God’s literal word as some Christians claim, why do the animals change from mythical creatures?  Hmmm.

Proverbs – Chapter 10: Proverbs of Solomon

The last two chapters in Proverbs focused on ‘wisdom’, but this chapter moves on to Proverbs of Solomon.  Shall we say, good luck to us? 🙂

“A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.” – Proverbs 10:1

A wise son doesn’t bring joy to a mother and a foolish son doesn’t bring grief to a father?  Why is this gender-roled?

“The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry,  but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.” – Proverbs 10:3

So not a single hungry person, including hungry children, in the word is righteous?  The no-true Scotsman’s fallacy.

Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” – Proverbs 10:4

Horrible advice that completely ignores the situation in which one is born into.  Plenty of hard working people end up in poverty and many wealthy people were lazy from the day of their birth.

“The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.” – Proverbs 10:8

Since when is it wise to accept without thinking first?

“The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor.” – Proverbs 10:15

Again, a disgusting verse that completely ignores the situation one was born into.  God has no room for the poor. He created them poor but blames them for their poverty.  Fuck you, God.

“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.” – Proverbs 10:22

This contradicts earlier verses that state the lazy will live in poverty.

“The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.” – Proverbs 10:27

Living your life in fear will shorten your life, not extend it.  That type of fear will affect one’s mental and physical health.

This chapter is one big pile of steamy horse shit.  This is advice? This is wisdom? Seriously? Christians, please read your Bible.  I know most of you don’t believe this crap.

Atheism Quotes – Phil Plait

Today’s Atheism quote comes from Phil Plait, also known as the Bad Astronomer.

“The more we teach people to simply accept anecdotal stories, hearsay, cherry-picked data (picking out what supports your claims but ignoring what doesn’t), and, frankly, out-and-out lies, the harder it gets for people to think clearly. If you cannot think clearly, you cannot function as a human being. I cannot stress this enough. Uncritical thinking is tearing this world to pieces, and while astrology may not be at the heart of that, it has its role.” – Phil Plait

Perfectly stated.  This world only improves with increased critical thinking.
