In the last chapter God was preparing to destroy everything and everyone in Israel! Yikes! Bad God, bad God!!!
“Listen to what the Lord says: ‘Stand up, plead my case before the mountains; let the hills hear what you have to say.’” – Micah 6:1
Um…the mountains are the judge? God is losing it. 🙂
“For the Lord has a case against his people; he is lodging a charge against Israel.” – Micah 6:2
This chapter is hilarious. God, the creator of all, is arguing his case to the mountains. LOL!
“I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery.” – Micah 6:4
True, but only after God hardened the hearts of the Egyptians and caused great pain to the Israelites.
“And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8
LOL! If only it were that easy to get in the Lord’s good graces. God has all sorts of tricks and rules that make it impossible to walk humbly and love mercy.
“Therefore, I have begun to destroy you, to ruin you because of your sins.” – Micah 6:13
God is the one who created sin.
“Therefore I will give you over to ruin and your people to derision; you will bear the scorn of the nations.” – Micah 6:16
God insists on death and destruction.
My takeaway from this chapter is God is upset the people are sinning and not following his orders. But God created sin. And besides, if God is all-powerful, he can snap his fingers and make the people do good. A much easier solution than destroying the people, children, and babies.
