2 Kings – Chapter 22: The Book of the Law Found

Today we return to the book of 2 Kings where the book of law has been found. Finally we will know the truth of which laws to follow. Um…sure.

“He (Josiah) did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.” – 2 Kings 22:2

Josiah did right in the eyes of God. Will he be rewarded or punished as others who have also done right?

“But they need not account for the money entrusted to them, because they are honest in their dealings.” – 2 Kings 22:7

Too often Christians believe the same thing of other Christians and all of a sudden you learn money is stolen from the church coffers!

“When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes.” – 2 Kings 22:11

An interesting reaction to reading a book.

“Great is the Lord’s anger that burns against us because those who have gone before us have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us.” – 2 Kings 22:13

Ah, the asshole God who would punish those for going against a law they did not know because they just found the fucking law book. SMH.

“This is what the Lord says: I am going to bring disaster on this place and its people, according to everything written in the book the king of Judah has read.” – 2 Kings 22:17

Yep, an asshole God.

“This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard:Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people—that they would become a curse and be laid waste—and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I also have heard you, declares the Lord. Therefore I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place.” – 2 Kings 22:18-20

How kind of God! He will lay waste to your land and kill you, but you’ll be buried in peace. LOL!

This chapter gives us a look at how God operates. He doesn’t care if you’ve ever seen the laws. You may have no idea what the laws are, but God is going to punish you if you break them. But remember, he loves you.
