Well That’s Awkward

Enjoy today’s meme!  Sums up the Bible very well.  Full of contradictions and this one is quite direct.

Thoughts on Forgiveness

It can be very tough to forgive someone who has wronged you.  It is especially tough when someone has deeply hurt you or a loved one.  Consider the recent shooting at a church in South Carolina.  To forgive the shooter is something I could NEVER do.  Yet Christianity requires people to forgive others who have sinned against you to reach Heaven.

“But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” – Matthew 6:15

If the Father does not forgive your sins, there is no place for you in Heaven, or so I’ve been told by a pastor in a sermon when I still attended church.  At first glance this makes sense.  Jesus supposedly came to Earth to wash away our sins.  The least we can do is forgive others, right?  Except that’s not what God does.  The Bible clearly states that God does not forgive all sins.

“Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” – Mark 3:28-29

So if Heaven requires you to forgive all sins done to you by others, and God does NOT forgive all sins, does this mean Heaven is God-less?  Scripture tells us this is the case.  As an Atheist I have no interest in a Heaven described in the Bible.  However, taking these verses, it turns out Heaven is God-less, so maybe Heaven is a worthy goal after all?  A Heaven without the God of the Bible sounds pretty good to me!  🙂
