Luke 12:51-53

Jesus is this loving character in the Bible right?  Nope, as shown by the last several Tuesday crazy Bible verse days.  Here’s another set of verses in the Bible for crazy Bible verse Tuesday in which Jesus says in his very own words that he is not bringing peace but division to the people.

“Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” – Luke 12:51-53

Christians love to argue and preach that Jesus brings peace and love.  No, he doesn’t.  He says so in his very own words.  He has come to split up your family.  You can only follow Jesus if you leave your family behind.  He will pit you against your own family members.  That’s the exact opposite of love!  Please, please, please, read the Bible and not just the lovey-dovey verses your pastor picks and chooses on Sunday morning.

Luke 19:27

It’s crazy Bible verse Tuesday and today I bring you yet another verse showing Jesus is far from an all-loving character in the Bible.

“But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.” – Luke 19:27

So if one doesn’t want Jesus or God ruling over him/her, Jesus commands that person to be put to death.  This is Jesus/God were talking about.  There’s no other way to reach an agreement?  There’s nothing else to be done?  Jesus/God doesn’t care.  Disobey him or ask questions and the result is death.  There’s no room for free thinkers in the land of God (OT) and Jesus (NT).

The point of the last several weeks is to show there are many verses in the New Testament that clearly show Jesus is not all about love.  There’s plenty of hate and death in Him as well.  Ever had a Christian argue against the crazy in the OT by saying “Oh, that’s the OT, Jesus preaches love”?  No, Jesus preaches just as much hate and is filled with just as much crazy nonsense as the God of the OT.  Take an afternoon and read the gospels of the New Testament.  It’s all there in plain view.

Luke 14:26

Most Christians will typically state that Jesus is all about love and kindness to others.  This is where the phrase “What Would Jesus Do” often comes from.  Since Jesus is full of love, we are to ask ourselves, during a difficult decision, what would Jesus do?  I believe that most Christians truly believe that Jesus really was full of love and kindness.  I don’t believe Christians who believe this are trying to mislead others.  They are just misinformed as to what the Bible actually says.  The Bible has many verses related to love, kindness, and Jesus, but there are several others in which Jesus does not promote love, and in fact, promotes hatred and anger.  One such verse is Luke 14:26

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.” – Luke 14:26

To be a true follower of Jesus, one must put Jesus first.  These are the direct words of Jesus in the Bible and not another Biblical character’s interpretation of what Jesus said.  These are the RED words in the Bible, for those reading a Bible in which Jesus’s direct words are colored red.  Not only does Jesus demand you put him first, he directly states that if you do NOT hate your family, you cannot follow him.  To follow Jesus you must hate your family.  Love?  I think not.  Jesus does ask you to love, but to love only him.  Showing love toward anyone else disqualifies you from being a follower of Jesus.

The Bible makes it clear that Jesus is not the lovey dovey character most Christians think he is.  He talks about love, but wants you to put all of your love in him, ignoring your family and out right hating them.  So the next time someone asks you what would Jesus do, respond with “hate his family.”

Luke 11:9-10

Today’s crazy Bible verse comes straight from the lips of Jesus.

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Luke 11:9-10

In these two verses Jesus makes it clear that our prayers will be answered.  All we have to do to receive help is ask.  I remember as a kid in Sunday School seeing other kids ask our teacher “why, if I pray to win the lottery, I don’t?”  The kids were asking as a joke, but now as an adult, it’s a serious question.  Jesus says we will receive if all we do is ask.  The counter-apologist argument is that God doesn’t work that way.  God only gives you what you truly need.  Okay, fine, but let’s look at a different pray.  “Dear God, please don’t let my daughter die of bone cancer.”  Does God answer?  Nope.  The daughter may survive, but only through modern medicine.  And what if the daughter dies?  Is God saying one didn’t need the daughter to live?  If so, that’s a crappy God.

So what to conclude from this?  Jesus and God do not exist, or Jesus is a liar.  Me?  I choose the former.

Luke 16:18

Today I return to the New Testament for this week’s crazy Bible verse.

“Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” – Luke 16:18

This clearly states there is no good reason for a divorce.  It doesn’t matter if you were forced into the marriage by society or if you don’t love each other anymore.  Divorce is wrong!  To marry someone else after getting divorced or to marry a divorced woman is to commit adultery and that is against one of the ten commandments.

I know many, many Christians who are divorced and re-married and personally, I think that’s perfectly fine!  I have no problems with Christians re-marrying after a divorce.  I want them to live a happy life and if re-marrying leads to happiness then so be it.  What upsets me is when Christians use other parts of the Bible to condemn other acts they disagree with.  Gay marriage is the perfect example.  The Bible says gay marriage is wrong and committing homosexual acts is wrong.  Therefore it’s breaking the fabric of society to let the gays marry.  WTF?!?!?!  Gay marriage is wrong, but you divorcing 4 times is okay?  Not according to Luke 16:18.

This is exactly what Kim Davis in Kentucky is doing.  Apparently her being on her 4th husband is okay in the eyes of God, but two gay men or gay women marrying is the equivalent of Satan taking over the world.  Sigh.
